Danbury, NC Case Files

The Arts Place

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

Small town main street with shops at sunset.

With the oldest section built in 1910 as the North Western Bank and the second section built in 1925 as a general store, The Arts Place now serves as the home of the Stokes County Arts Council, The Arts Place, and Rocky's Coffee & Ice Cream. As our home base, we have been documenting activity here since 2022, including disembodied voices, shadow figures, intelligent resident spirits, and poltergeist activity. We have seen it all at this location! We label this one of our most active locations.

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

Historic red brick courthouse with white columns.

The original courthouse structure at this location was built in 1850; the current building was built in 1904. This building functioned as the main courthouse until the 80's. The building now holds the Stokes County School Board, Soil & Water Conservation, and FSA offices. Like the Arts Place, we have seen it all here. Small children who want to play, angry convicts still arguing their cases, even a card-playing, cigarette-smoking spirit waits for visitors here!

The Old Danbury High School

The Old Stokes County Courthouse

The Old Danbury High School

Old abandoned brick building with boarded windows.

This structure was built in the mid 1920's as Danbury High School and closed in the mid 60's due to consolidation. This building is currently used as offices for Senior Services, Cooperative Extension, and Forestry services. The halls of this school are still filled with the laughter of children, prankster spirits, and a music-loving principal who still watches over his beloved school.

The Old Stokes County Jail

The Old Stokes County Jail

The Old Danbury High School

Old brick building with a tower surrounded by greenery.

Like the Courthouse, the original structure at this location was built in 1850, and the current building was built in 1904 and was used as the main Stokes County Jail until the 70's. This building is now privatly owned, and was a part of DGT for three years. The spirits here are still trying to get out on good behavior by responding to traditinal warden commands with footsteps, bangs, and setting off equipment.

The Arts Block

The Old Stokes County Jail

Moratock Iron Furnace

Small town main street with shops at sunset.

This property is still in the research process for our 2026 season.

Moratock Iron Furnace

The Old Stokes County Jail

Moratock Iron Furnace

Built in the 1850's to provide munitions to the confederate army, this structure now sits desolate on the far side of a public park (currently closed due to construction). A once large Iron Works, now still sits amidst rubble after being deconstructed by the Union Army during Stonemans Raid. This site is known for Civil War Soldier sitings, and photographic anomolys.
